David J. Opet II
Madison Twp., PA
David J. Opet II, 55, of Madison Township, Pennsylvania, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born on August 13, 1970, in Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late David J. Opet and Gloria Jean Nartowicz Opet. He is survived by his brothers, John J. Opet of Philadelphia and Robert J. Opet of Tunkhannock.
Dave was a friend to everyone and always placed others before himself. No request was ever too large or too small. Known as the neighborhood Mr. Fix-it, he was constantly mowing lawns, plowing snow, or repairing televisions for neighbors. He generously volunteered his time at the American Red Cross and the Dialysis Center in Scranton.
He lived for two seasons: football, where he remained a fiercely loyal fan of the New Orleans Saints through every disappointment, and the off-season devoted to NASCAR. He wore shorts no matter how cold the weather, savored cracking open a Keystone Light, and took great pride in sharing his favorite band, Alabama, and his beloved Komensky Kielbasa with his chosen family. Each year he made sure someone joined him at the Tunkhannock fair to wait in line for Triton Pizza. Locals affectionately called him “Townie,” a nickname he wore with pride. A familiar face at R Place in Hamlin, Dave will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
