David I. Hall

1937 — 2026

Stoughton, MA

David I. Hall, 88, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026, after a period of failing health, surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of the late Carol (Paduch) Hall for 60 years.

Born in Brockton to Everett and Gathry (Haglund) Hall, David was raised in Easton. A 1956 graduate of Oliver Ames High School, he excelled in athletics as the Hockomock League shot put champion in 1955 and 1956 and as a member of the Tigers basketball team that reached the state finals at the Boston Garden those same years. He went on to study electrical engineering at Northeastern University before beginning a career with Westinghouse Elevator and Otis Elevator, installing elevators in new building construction. In 1959 he married Carol, and in 1963 the couple moved to Stoughton, where they raised their family. There he worked installing fire and burglar alarms before joining the maintenance department at New England Sinai Hospital in 1978, where he served as foreman for 28 years.

David had a deep love for the outdoors. He was a longtime member of the Middleborough Hare and Rabbit Sportsman Club and the Wampanoag Paddlers canoeing club. He also belonged to the Ocean Spray Cooperative while tending a cranberry bog in Stoughton. In the early 1980s, he and Carol purchased 80 acres on a mountain in Maine, where David built a camp by hand. The property became a cherished retreat where he spent many weekends and vacations enjoying nature’s beauty and solitude and forming lifelong friendships.

In retirement, David and Carol traveled extensively in their RV, making frequent trips to Canada and to Florida for Red Sox spring training, as well as visits to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, to see their niece Heidi Pierce and nephew Andrew Coe. A devoted sports fan, he followed local teams with special passion for college football and basketball. He also enjoyed reading western novels, gardening, woodworking, and building things.

David leaves behind his children, Karen Duke of Wareham, Keith Hall and his wife Susan of Cataumet, and Robin Hall and her husband David Young of Stoughton; grandchildren Randall, Karen, Cory-Jean, and Benjamin; great-grandchildren Genevieve, Robert, and Stella; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Nancy (Hall) Coe. He will be greatly missed.
