He passed away with loving Care in Hospice.He was born in Buffalo, New York March 26 1948. He was the beloved son of Dave and Marion Matthies. He was a member of Lutheran Church of the Cross in St Petersburg Fl. where he faithfully sang in the choir and served on the council.Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Joann of 55 years, sister, Nancy Hoff & family, Dustin & Autumn, Dave's children; Julia Cubler (Brian), Jenell Swartz (Dave). Grandchildren, Anna, Kate and Caroline, Marley and Landon, and his favorite sister-in-law Linda Miville (Norm).Professionally, he owned, along with his son-in-law Dave Swartz, Southern Lock and Supply. He worked in the Wholesale Security Hardware Distribution industry more than 60 years. He captained Southern Lock into one of the largest regional distributors in the industry. He was a two-time president of the Security Hardware Distributor Association. He loved and served the industry as a welcoming ambassador for over half a century.He loved travel and new adventures!Dave was always welcoming and very quick with a smile and he was a master of the lost art of being silly. He was mischievous and loved practical jokes and fun surprises. He loved desserts, chocolate, tiramisu, and all things sweet. He often joked about having dessert first at dinner.In his last year, as the disease progressed, when we were in any store, he would go up to a complete stranger and offer his hand to shake and speak with the person to the best of his ability.There will be a service March 28, 2026 at 11 AM at Lutheran Church of the Cross.
