David Eugene Cody, age 86, of Graham, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026. Born on March 6, 1940, in Burlington, North Carolina, he was the son of Lester and Ella Mae Cody. He was known for his gentle spirit, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to the people he loved. A lifelong North Carolina Tar Heels enthusiast, he carried that loyalty with pride throughout his years.

He spent his career as an accountant and retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation, where he was respected for his professionalism, integrity, and steadfast work ethic. In retirement, he continued serving his community by preparing taxes and volunteering at Loaves and Fishes, offering trusted guidance to friends, neighbors, and longtime clients.

He is survived by his children, Jeffrey David Cody and his wife, Kay Mobley-Cody, and Scott Edward Cody and his significant other, Laurel Mise; his granddaughter, Brooke A. Cody, daughter of Scott; his sisters, Linda Wells and her husband, Cyrus Wells, and Gloria Martin, wife of the late Dennis Martin; a niece and nephew, the children of Linda and Cyrus; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Sandra Starnes Cody, with whom he shared two sons. The family also acknowledges Ida Montgomery, his cherished companion of 27 years, whom he affectionately called “my sweetie” and loved deeply.

David will be remembered for his generosity, quiet strength, devotion to family, and proud Tar Heel spirit.
