July 1, 1948— March 8, 2026
Firth, ID
David Elwin Clayson passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. A man of remarkable faith and character, Dave carried a giant heart in a small frame and devoted his life to the Lord, his family, and all those around him.
Born on July 1, 1948, in Shelley, Idaho, to Elwin “Whitey” and Darlene Duce Clayson, David grew up in eastern Idaho. He graduated from Firth High School, attended Ricks College, and served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Great Lakes Mission. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Brigham Young University, followed by a Master of Education and School Psychologist certificate from Idaho State University.
On May 31, 1972, David married Eris Peacock in the Idaho Falls Temple. After working as a school psychologist for three years, he returned to farming—the vocation he loved most—and spent the rest of his life working the land that meant so much to him. Deeply committed to his community, he served 17 years on the Firth School Board. Within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he gave many years of dedicated service as a bishop, stake president, temple ordinance worker, and temple sealer. His quiet example, kindness, and steadfast faith touched countless lives.
David cherished his family above all and found his greatest joy in their company. His life was defined by humility, hard work, and genuine love for others.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Eris Clayson; his six children, Trishann (Jared) Russell, Brent (Maddie) Clayson, Daniel (Jill) Clayson, Cammie (Scott) Sauer, Candie (Brandan) Madsen, and Nathan (Brooke) Clayson; his seven siblings, Nolan, Dennis, Gaylen, Melanie, Janeen, Connie, and Kaylene; 27 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elwin and Darlene Clayson, his infant sister, and four grandchildren.
