David Earl Gatz, 68, of Amarillo, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2026. Graveside services will be at 9:00 A.M. on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon followed by a memorial service at 10:30 A.M. at Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Amarillo with Rev. Dr. Tyler Taber officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon.David was born on August 29, 1957 in San Francisco, California to Earl E. and Nancy (Murray) Gatz. He grew up in Pratt, Kansas and attended Haskins Elementary School and Liberty Jr. High school where he played football, basketball, and ran track. He graduated from Pratt High School in 1975 where he excelled in football, receiving All-Conference End honors, and also ran track.David graduated from Kansas Community College in 1976 and went on to receive his BS in Animal Science from Kansas State University in 1980. He then received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State Veterinary College in 1984 and moved to Amarillo to work at Amarillo Veterinary Clinic. He married Cindy Ehly on July 16, 1988 in Nazareth, Texas at the Holy Family Catholic Church. They moved to Parkersburg, WV in 1990 where he worked at Dudley Avenue Veterinary Clinic before moving to Leavenworth, KS in 1991 to purchase Broadway Veterinary Clinic. David became a born again Christian on April 1st, 2002.David and Cindy moved to Amarillo and joined Redeemer Presbyterian Church in 2019. David was ordained as an elder the following year.David is survived by his wife, Cindy Gatz; son, Aaron Gatz; daughter, Bethany Gatz; Mother, Nancy Gatz; and four sisters, Janet Bennett and husband, John, Karen Sullivan and husband, Tom, Suzanne Gatz, and Kathleen Gatz.The family suggests memorials be to Hope Choice Pregnancy Center, 6709 Woodward St, Amarillo, TX 79106.
