David DeWayne Fuhrman, Age 81, of Bronson, Kansas passed away at home on March 12, 2026.
DeWayne was born to George and Bertha (Perry) Fuhrman on February 5, 1945, in Fort Scott, Kansas. He attended Uniontown High School graduating with the class of 1963. After high school he furthered his education at Fort Scott community college for general studies.
DeWayne married Deanna Umphenour on June 6, 1964 in Pleasanton, Kansas. This union was blessed with three children, Danea, David, Denise. DeWayne and Deanna were members of the Garnett Saddle Club for 30 plus years. They were very active in the Anderson County Boots and Spurs 4-H Club. They both also shared membership in MEKWHA. Deanna passed away on July 11, 2014.
DeWayne reunited with an old friend, soon to be partner in life, Sherryl West in August of 2014. Sherryl and DeWayne shared every moment in life together up until his passing. DeWayne's children recall their mother as an "irreplaceable incredible person," but also recall being very blessed to have Sherryl in their lives to continue to be a rock for their father and bring constant laughter and shenanigans to their lives.
DeWayne was a hard worker for the Kansas Department of Transportation for 37 years, as a Road and Bridge Inspector/ Engineer. After retirement in 1999 he continued to put himself to work for Uniontown USD 235 as a bus driver for 20 years.
DeWayne is preceded in death by his wife Deanna Fuhrman; parents George and Bertha (Perry) Fuhrman; brother LeRoy and wife Luella Fuhrman; sister Helen and husband Sam Rife; brother-in-law Wayne Umphenour.
He is survived by his loving companion of 12 years, Sherryl West; three children Danea Esslinger and their children Breanna and husband Gary Floyd, and Brenton and wife Keysha Esslinger, David and wife Jada Fuhrman, and their children Dalton and Cassidy Fuhrman, Denise Lampe and Rodney Hobert, and their children Kallie and husband Ty Turner, Coy and wife Jenika Lampe; brother Harley Fuhrman; six great-grandchildren Brooks, Kinzlea, Wriggley, Brody, Hadlea, and Jerrickson; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Iola, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Bronson Cemetery. DeWayne's family will greet friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday evening, March 17, 2026 at the Venue, 1883 HWY 54, Iola, Kansas 66749.Memorial Contributions may be made to the Bourbon County Fair, and left in the care of Feuerborn Family Funeral Service.
