May 3, 1953 – March 6, 2026
David Denton Woffinden, lovingly known as Dave, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Magna, Utah, on March 6, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 72 years old.
Dave was born on May 3, 1953, in Salt Lake City, Utah, at LDS Hospital to Walter D. Woffinden and Emily R. Woffinden. He was blessed by his father, Walter, on July 5, 1953. Dave was baptized on May 7, 1961, and confirmed a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by his father.
As a young man, Dave was active in Scouting and proudly earned his Eagle Scout award in 1969. He graduated from Highland High School in 1971.
Dave served for many years with the Salt Lake School District, working at the warehouse. Later, he worked as a security officer for EnergySolutions (formerly Envirocare) in the West Desert, where he eventually retired.
On February 4, 1995, Dave married the love of his life, Denise. Together they shared many wonderful adventures, including road trips throughout the western United States and time spent with their children and growing family.
Dave had a deep appreciation for the beauty of the outdoors. He especially loved photographing desert landscapes and wildlife. He was also an enthusiastic sports fan who enjoyed watching BYU athletics, the Utah Jazz, and the Utah Mammoth. Dave also cherished his nutcracker collection, and it made his home unique and memorable, especially during the holiday season.
Above all, Dave cherished time with his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Denise; his sister Sharon (Dave); his children Tim, Nicole, Marty (Cindy), Jennifer (Carlos), Ashley, and Brian (Malena); his grandchildren Sadie, Kiara, Taylor, Adriana, Devin, Valerie, McKenna, Lauren, and Derek; and his great-grandchildren Charlie, Frances, Allaria, Bentley, and Easton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter D. Woffinden and Emily R. Woffinden.
Dave will be remembered for his love of family, his appreciation of nature, his special traditions, and the quiet strength with which he lived his life.
A celebration of life will be held on April 11, 2026.
