David C. Gast

David C. Gast, 89, of Ashland, passed away on March 14, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family.

Born on February 1, 1937, in Lodi, Ohio, he was the son of the late Leroy and Golda (née Heister) Gast. David graduated from Polk High School with the Class of 1954. He went on to build a successful career as a chemist and businessman, devoting much of his professional life to projects developing personal protective equipment for the medical community.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Shirley (née Bryan) Gast of Ashland; his children, Sherry (Clyde) Fultz, Debora (Brian) Fulk, Wayne Gast, and Angie Bassel; seven grandchildren, Heather (Mark) Dress, Holly Fultz, Cris (Patrick Walsh) Thomas, Shannon (Landon) Albers, Josh and Jared (Merideth) Crabtree, and Christy (Chris) Doss; many great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and his brother, Dean (Nancy) Gast.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife’s parents, Alfred and Bessie Bryan, and his brother, Glenn (Josephine) Gast. A private graveside service will be held at Polk Cemetery at a later date in accordance with his wishes.
