David Arthur Brantner, affectionately known as “Pittsburgh Dave,” passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, at the age of 80, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on September 28, 1945, in Rochester, Pennsylvania, he spent many cherished years in Valparaiso, Indiana, and his beloved Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
A proud veteran, Dave served his country in the United States Navy. He later built a long and successful career with North American Refractories before retiring. Deeply committed to his community, he remained a lifelong member of the Monacatootha American Legion, where he shared many hours of good-natured banter with his late brother, Tom. A true Pittsburgher, Dave’s unwavering loyalty to the Steelers was legendary; he was rarely seen without their gear. Fiercely competitive and athletic, he maintained a lifelong love of basketball and could passionately debate the greatness of Wilt Chamberlain with anyone. He also possessed a tender heart for animals and was a devoted advocate for creatures of all kinds.
Above all, Dave’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his children, Kelly Hansen (David), Kimberly Moore, Lauren Brantner (Jerry Galvan), Roger Rialmo (Katherine), Katherine and David Burke; his grandchildren, J.J., Finnegan, Mirielle, Larkin, Castle, Evelyn and Xander; his great-grandson, Gabriel; and his brother, Eric Brantner (Aleatha) of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Mary Brantner, and his brothers, Jan Brantner and Thomas Brantner.
Those who knew Dave will always remember his strength, steadfast loyalty, humor, and the unmistakable warmth of his Pittsburgh spirit. He lived for the Black and Gold, but most profoundly for his family. His presence, humor, and fierce devotion will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
