David Smith ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Red Mountain Funeral Home on Mar. 17, 2026.David was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to David R. Smith and Rita M Smith, née Ford,in 1961. His early years began a lifelong passion for the outdoors and open spaces andserved as the basis for a life of Service, Skill, and Imagination.A man of many talents, David was an entrepreneur with a diverse career that reflectedhis spirit; Father, Chef, IT Specialist, Photographer, Landscaper, Mechanic. He had justas many hobbies; from Astronomy, Off-Roading and Marksmanship to Video Games,Sci-Fi, and Model Making.Though he faced many trials in his life, even from childhood David was a man who wassteadfast under pressure, met hardship without surrender, and despite many personalburdens, emotional trials and persistent health issues tried to never let his strugglesdefine him. He was a private man who often preferred to quietly share his light and loveand lend his ear to other's problems. He was deeply metaphysical: a seeker whosejourney explored many paths and whose heart always held the truth of universaloneness. He raised two children, Michael and Rachel, who remember him as a fun dad with acontagious sense of humor; a Parrot Head who loved filling the house with the sound ofJimmy Buffet as he cooked. He was a loving grandfather who kept lists of each of hisgrandchildren's birthdays and things they enjoyed. He was a careful listener who did hisbest to impart his wisdom and remind everyone to see the humor in everyday life.He is survived and remembered fondly by Michael & Ashley, Rachel & James, Eevie,Fox, Miranda, Shawn, Charlie, and his siblings Sara Smith Maher, Julie Smith Riddleand Anthony Smith. Despite his private nature his impact on his community was alwaysfelt. His loved ones, neighbors and friends all remember him as a kind, funny andfriendly man who did his best to help when he could, or simply smile, wave and have achat.David would want all of those who loved him to remember that he felt tremendous pridein all that he created and accomplished, and that he is not lost to us. He has crossedthe horizon into the long memory of kin and will always be with us. His legacy is livedeach day in the values, knowledge, habits, sayings, songs and stories he imparted to allthose close to him. The open sky, the sea and stars will always carry his memory withus and his story will continue through us as he begins his next voyage of discovery."The old must give way to the young." "A man is not truly gone while his name is stillspoken."To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
