February 9, 1937— March 12, 2026
Elkton, MI
David “Dave” A. Hacker of Elkton, age 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at McLaren Thumb Region in Bad Axe, Michigan. Born on February 9, 1937, in Bad Axe to the late Alexander and Minnie (Kroupa) Hacker, Dave graduated from Elkton High School in 1955. He spent his early years helping his father on the family farm before working at various machine shops and factories in the region. He helped establish Huron Tool and Engineering and retired as a machinist from the company in 2000. In 1959 he married Janet Kay Andersen, whom he had met at a roller rink the previous year. She survives him.
Dave found deep peace in the outdoors. He loved camping with his family and generously shared his knowledge of woodcraft with children as a Boy Scout leader. A man of quiet and steadfast faith, he was a lifelong member of Harvest Church in Bad Axe, where he served on the board, taught Sunday School, and led as a Royal Ranger. He and Janet enjoyed traveling across the country together and spent many winters in Tucson, Arizona. Above all, Dave cherished a laid-back life centered on simple pleasures—watching the Tigers and, most importantly, spending time with his beloved family.
He is survived by his wife of more than 66 years, Janet Hacker; their children, Larry (Debi) Hacker, Denise (Jim) McLane, Jeff Hacker, Don Hacker, and Chris Hacker; fourteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Clement Heleski; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Dave was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Jane Heleski.
