Dave Downs

Dave Downs, 87, of Winterset, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026, at his home under the care of EveryStep Hospice.

David Don Downs was born in Warren County, Iowa on February 20, 1939, the son of Don and Merle (Powell) Downs. He graduated from St. Charles High School in 1957. Dave was united in marriage to Mary Ann Orr. After her passing in 1989, he married Patricia Snider (Duff) on February 12, 1991, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Dave spent his life farming and also worked as a school bus driver for the Interstate-35 Schools. He was a lifelong resident of St. Charles and took great pride in his community. In October of 2025, Dave and Pat moved to Winterset.

Dave is survived by his wife, Pat Downs; his children, Larry Downs (Lori), Randy Downs (Suzanne), Debbie Williams, Lori Dykstra (Dave), Rae Soellner (Brian), Shelly Pope (Daryl), Darcie Larson (Eric), and Kari Snider; 15 grandchildren, David, Meredith, Tanner, Chelsea, Riley, Keely, Jason, Justin, Jeremy, Kayla, Lindsy, Chelsey, Kendall, Jared, and Jace; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary Ann Downs; and his sister, Shirley June Keeney.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at St. Charles Parish in St. Charles. Family will be present to receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the St. Charles Cemetery.
