Darwin Dawson Eldred

February 27, 1949 March 6, 2026

Clio, MI

Darwin “Dar” Dawson Eldred, age 77, of Clio, Michigan, passed away on March 6, 2026, at the VA Hospital in Tampa, Florida. Born on February 27, 1949, in Flint, Michigan, Dar lived a full and vibrant life centered on family, friendship, and service to his community.

He proudly served his country from September 11, 1968, to September 10, 1974, including a tour in Vietnam. That experience remained a cornerstone of his identity, and he carried deep respect for his fellow veterans, always greeting them with a handshake and the words “Welcome Home.”

Dar is survived by his loving wife, Rosanne (Dowd) Eldred; his son, Jason (Stacey) Eldred; and his cherished grandchildren, Madaleena and Dawson Eldred. He also leaves behind his sister, Dawn (Craig) Nelson; special friends from Canada, David (Carolyn) Carnahan, Gale (Mark) Braun, and Barb (Carl) Pilsner; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews whom he adored.

He was preceded in death by his son, Wesley Eldred; his parents, Devota (Miller) and Darwin Eldred; his sister, Denise Trinklein; and his special friend, Heidi Zoltak.

Family was the heart of Dar’s world. He took great pride in being a father and grandfather, and his conversations often revolved around his sons and grandchildren. He found joy in boating on Higgins Lake, listening to Big Band music, watching classic black-and-white shows, dancing, discussing politics, enjoying breakfast by the beach, sharing popcorn or banana splits, savoring apple pie and Moosehead beer from Canada, and taking afternoon naps. He held a special affection for cars, especially Buicks. A man of action and camaraderie, he remained actively involved with the VFW, the 40 & 8 Society, Camp Curnalia, the Masonic Fraternity, and served as Past Commander of Frankenmuth American Legion Post 150. He also served as a Trustee on the Montrose Township Board.

Dar’s warmth, love of family, and steadfast commitment to service left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
