Preserve forever →Darren Keith "Big D" Spivey
August 28, 1958— March 9, 2026
Nome, TX
Darren Keith Spivey, known affectionately as “Big D,” passed away peacefully at home in Nome on March 9, 2026, at the age of 67. Born on August 28, 1958, in Beaumont to Betty Jo Burke and Gerald Wayne Spivey, he graduated from Hardin-Jefferson High School in 1977, where he played football, baseball, and competed in track and field.
After high school, Darren began his working life in the shoe department at Kmart before joining his uncle Dwight in carpentry. He later worked alongside his brother Ricky at HB Zachary, then spent 22 years at Biskamp Electric. He finished his career at Radley Electric, where he and several partners purchased M & D Electric, a milestone he took great pride in. He retired in 2025.
Darren gave generously of his time to Twin County youth baseball and the Hardin-Jefferson High School athletics booster club. He was named Citizen of the Year in Sour Lake, Texas. He loved surf fishing at the beach, deer hunting, and baseball, and he never turned down a good snack. Above all, he was a devoted family man with a heart of gold. A dedicated son, husband, father, pepaw, brother, and friend, he was known for his steadfast reliability, his willingness to teach and mentor, and his refusal to quit on those he loved.
He is survived by his wife, Diana (Martel) Spivey; daughter Nikki Jo Spivey and her partner Robert Sirmons of China; grandson and son Mason Spivey and his partner McKenzie LeLeaux; grandchildren Shelbi Ledet, Tyler Spivey, and Caleb Spivey; great-granddaughters Addylyn and Emberlyn Spivey; daughter-in-love Tina Bailey; brothers Ricky and Kathy Spivey, Jimmy and Valerie Spivey, and Carl and Cheryl Spivey; and many extended family members, friends, and colleagues. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Darren Keith Spivey II, and his great-grandson Nathaniel James Spivey.
