Fort Ashby, WV
Darrell Sheridan Tichinel, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, pastor, and cherished member of his community, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026.
Born in Vindex, Maryland, he was the son of the late George and Juanita Tichinel. He was preceded in death by his sisters Elizabeth Paugh, Wanda Barnes, Genevieve Davis, and Naomi Tichinel, and his brother David Tichinel.
Darrell shared 61 loving years with his wife, Phyllis. Together they raised four children: Darrell Steven (Jake) and his wife Sherrie, Evangeline Laffey and her husband Tim, Jeffrey and his late wife Elizabeth, and Ralph and his wife Maria. He was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
For many years Darrell worked with skill and dedication in auto body repair and detailing at Shaffer Ford in Oakland, Maryland. He also answered a higher calling, serving 45 years as a pastor at Mathias Assembly, Kingwood Assembly, and Bethel Tabernacle Assembly of God in West Virginia. His ministry included leadership in the men’s ministry of the Potomac District and many years providing security at Camp Echo Church Camp. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and floating the South Branch Potomac River. He found joy working with his hands as a mechanic, cutting wood, gardening, and tending flowers alongside Phyllis. Known for his storytelling that often ended in laughter, he cherished traveling with family and gave generously of his time, including overseas mission trips to build churches and help those in need.
