Darrell Gene Marcum

Darrell Gene Marcum, 69, of Sparta, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Born on January 30, 1957, in St. Charles, Missouri, he was the son of Virgil and Margaret (née Jones) Marcum.

Darrell worked as a licensed practical nurse at Independence Care Center in Missouri. Known for his caring and compassionate nature, he was the kind of nurse patients hoped to have. Gentle and kind with everyone in his care, he provided end-of-life support with dignity and quiet grace. In his free time, he enjoyed watching his favorite television shows, including “I Love Lucy” and “The Golden Girls,” and playing card games and backgammon.

He is survived by his two children, Margaret (Dustyn) Compton of Springfield, Missouri, and Darrell Gene Marcum Jr. of St. Louis, Missouri; four grandchildren, Lyllian Compton, Jaymes Compton, Aymelia Compton, and Tristan Eno; his sister, Darlene Marcum of Sparta, Illinois; and his niece, Nikki Bunch. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents.
