Darrell Carter

Darrell Carter, 78, of Hayesville, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2026, in a Murphy hospital. A native of Clay County, he graduated from Hayesville High School before moving to College Park, Georgia, where he worked for General Motors in Atlanta for more than 20 years. He later opened Carter Produce in Norcross, Georgia, and upon returning to Hayesville, established Carter Produce in the Peachtree community, which he operated until his retirement. He was a longtime member of First Freewill Baptist Church.

Son of the late George and Georgie Carter, Darrell was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Carter. He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Mease Carter, of Hayesville; two sons, Bobby Carter and his wife Susan, of Senoia, Georgia, and Darren Carter, of Hayesville; and seven grandchildren, Kameron, Kaeden, Hailey, Marley, Carley, Ian, and Evan.

He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who built a life grounded in hard work, family, and his deep roots in Clay County.
