Darold Werkmeister

Darold Werkmeister, 95 of O'Neill, Nebraska died Thursday, March 5, 2026 at Arbor Care Center in O'Neill. No public services are scheduled.

Darold H. Werkmeister was born December 20, 1930 in Winner, SD to Harold and Clara (Breding) Werkmeister. The family moved from Keya Paha, South Dakota to a farm/ranch south of Ewing, Nebraska in 1941.

Darold attended a rural elementary school, then graduated from Wheeler County High School, Bartlett, Nebraska in 1948.

After graduation Darold began farming. He purchased a farm northeast of Neligh, Nebraska in 1966 where he raised livestock and farmed corn. He installed one of the first center pivots in the area in 1967/’68. He retired in 1996.

Darold married Laurel Foster in Basset, NE on November 17, 2000. They lived in Ord and O’Neill, Nebraska. Through the years, Darold enjoyed fishing and collecting a variety of things like guns, marbles and knives.

Darold is survived by his sister, Judy Bixby of Los Cruses, New Mexico, sister-in-law JuLee Werkmeister of Yankton, SD, 3 nieces and 5 nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Laurel and brothers, Marvin (Ginny) and Donald.
