She was preceded in death by her parents and two siblings, her sister Mary "Koo-Koo" Larrimore and her brother William "Billy" Bennett.Darlene was educated in the Hampton public school system and graduated from Kecoughtan High School in 1982. She began her career as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), serving faithfully at Riverside Health System, Mary Immaculate Hospital, and other healthcare agencies throughout the surrounding area. Through her work, Darlene demonstrated a deep love for helping others. Her care, compassion, and gentle spirit were evident to all who knew her.Darlene was truly the life of the party. Her smile and laughter were contagious, and she had a special way of bringing joy to those around her. She was also a loving and devoted mother. Darlene loved to cook, especially for her beloved son, Sharrod, who was truly her pride and joy. She also dearly loved her fur baby, Martie Sir Bennett.Darlene had a beautiful sense of style and took great pride in her home. Her love of décor, her exceptional cooking skills, and her loyalty to those she loved were unmatched. Her home was always warm, welcoming, and filled with love.Most importantly, Darlene loved the Lord. She found great comfort and fellowship at First Baptist Church Denbigh. Even when she was unable to attend in person due to work or illness, she remained connected by faithfully watching the church's streaming services.Darlene had a personal relationship with God and possessed a true servant's heart. She quietly blessed many people throughout her life, often providing meals, support, and encouragement without seeking recognition. Her generosity was great, but it was always humble and sincere.Even in the face of illness, Darlene remained strong and full of spirit. Her resilience, grace, and unwavering faith were an inspiration to everyone who knew her.Darlene was called to rest on Wednesday, March 12th 2026, surrounded by her loving son, brother, and other cherished family members.She leaves to cherish her memory her loving son, Sharrod Bennett; her brother, Calvin Ponton; her sister, Celia Ponton; her beloved fur baby, Marty Sir Bennett; and her special friends Sharon Carney, Yvette Shelton, Sandra Pierce, Rhonda Lewis, Cheryl Woody, Wanda Jones, Leila Holt, Sharon Combs, Jackie Gaston, and Angel Tune, along with a host of other relatives and dear friends.The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who committed their time, care, and compassion in helping to look after Darlene.Though Darlene's earthly journey has come to an end, the love, kindness, and generosity she poured into the lives of others will continue to live on. Her warm smile, joyful laughter, and giving heart touched countless people, often in quiet ways that only they would know. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, strength, and unwavering faith in God.
