Darlene Howard, age 86, of Speedwell, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Born in Lima, Ohio, on January 19, 1940, to the late Robert and Beatrice Smith, Darlene devoted her life to being a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Following graduating from Lincoln Memorial University, in Harrogate, Tennessee, Darlene spent her professional career as a bookkeeper for various companies, most recently, Yoakum Trucking Company. A funny, kind soul, who could whistle louder than most, she will forever be remembered as the “Neighborhood Nanny” who loved teaching all the children how to fly a kite. Darlene, being highly intelligent enjoyed watching Jeopardy every night and rarely gave others an opportunity to answer. Darlene and her wonderful laughter will forever be missed by her family and friends.
Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband of fifty-four years, Bill Howard, one child and three siblings.
Survivors include four children, eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and a host of family friends.
Direct cremation services to be provided by Arnett & Steele Cremation Services.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at Arnett & Steele Valley Chapel, in Harrogate, Tennessee, on Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 12PM until 2PM.
