Danny Wayne Holt

1948 — 2026

Hohenwald, TN

Danny Wayne Holt, age 77, of Lewis County, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, at his home. Born on September 12, 1948, at the Boyce Clinic in Hohenwald to Odie Holt and Lucille Carroll Holt, Danny graduated from Lewis County High School in 1966 and later earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Tennessee. He taught school for three years before pursuing a variety of occupations. In the early 1990s, he founded Quality Construction and later retired from the State of Tennessee Department of Children’s Services after many years of dedicated service.

On February 1, 1985, Danny married Judy Elaine Love. Their marriage was grounded in love, laughter, and shared faith. Known for his playful spirit and relentless teasing, Danny never let anyone forget a good story he had on them, yet beneath the humor was a man who deeply loved his family and friends. His wife and children were the center of his world. He prayed for them daily, often saying that God came first and family a very close second, and he wanted everyone to know the Lord. He considered his family his greatest accomplishment.

A true jack of all trades, Danny could fix almost anything, though he was equally famous for getting things stuck, tearing things up, or occasionally setting something on fire in the process. He took great pride in restoring an old farmhouse and homestead on a Century Farm. After retirement, he enjoyed farming, raising cattle, baling hay, and building fences. He cherished quiet moments, especially his morning and evening naps.

Danny shared a close bond with his brothers and often recalled their childhood days when they worked together to help support the family, including driving to Michigan at the young age of twelve or thirteen. He was an enthusiastic participant in the Lewis County Hee Haw skits that raised money for the Lewis County Cancer Society. Above all, he was a faithful member of the Gordonsburg Church of Christ, present whenever the doors were open.

He is survived by his loving wife, Judy Holt; his children, Jamie Spears, Danielle (Jason) Brooks, and Colyn (Eric) McKnight; his brothers, Eddie (Marlene) Holt, Mack (Kay) Holt, and Jackie (Karen) Holt; and his six grandchildren, Kinsley, Karlie, Anderson, Sawyer, Max, and Braxton. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Freddie Holt, whom he missed deeply and looked forward to seeing again. Danny also leaves behind many dear friends who were an important part of his life.
