Daniel Paul Pust

1951 — 2026

Glendive, MT

Daniel Paul Pust, known to most as Dan, was born on June 23, 1951, in Savage, Montana, the youngest of four children of William and Mary (Almond) Pust. Raised on the family farm, he graduated from Savage High School in 1969. He went on to attend Bob Jones University in South Carolina and Baptist Bible College in Missouri before returning to Montana, where he helped on the family farm and began ministering in local churches.

In 1978, Dan married Janice Fossum in Canada. The couple moved to Glendive in 1981 to help establish West Side Baptist Church, where they raised their three sons. Dan served first as assistant pastor and later became full-time pastor in 1987, a role he faithfully filled until his final sermon on January 25, 2026. In addition to his ministry, he worked as an auditor for Mountain Commercial Specialists, traveling across eastern Montana. He was known for his kindness, often seeking to build friendships even during business visits. Dan performed many weddings and funerals in the community and quietly helped those in need.

Dan had a gift for fixing things, especially vehicles, and was rarely idle. Whether tinkering in the garage, mowing, or assisting with community projects such as watering flowers for the Glendive Garden Club, he stayed active. Above all, he cherished his family and his deep faith in Jesus Christ. He was passionate about sharing the gospel and often reminded others that “everyone will live someplace forever,” encouraging them to choose Jesus as the way to heaven.

Dan passed away on March 9, 2026, at Advanced Care Hospital in Billings, Montana, at the age of 74, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Pust, and his in-laws, Curtis and Jean Fossum. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jan Pust of Glendive; their sons, Tyler Pust of Glendive, Ryan Pust of Billings, and Seth (DeAsia) Pust of Glendive; his siblings, Edwin (Karen) Pust, Keith Pust, and Carol (Larry) Montgomery, all of California; and his brothers-in-law, Lary (Diane) Fossum, Gary (Kathy) Fossum, Brian (Mary) Fossum, and Dennis (Mary) Felhauer, all of Canada, along with many nieces and nephews.
