Daniel Michael DeCato, a courageous, dedicated, and charismatic man, passed away on March 7, 2026. Born on October 26, 1947, in Canton, Ohio, he spent his entire life in the city he loved, enriching it with his gregarious personality and steadfast commitment to his work and passions.
Daniel served bravely in the Vietnam War, earning multiple heroic commendations. After his military service, he worked as a Diesel Mechanic for the City of Canton until his retirement. He was an avid golfer, a member of the Corvette Club, and a devoted fan of Westerns and the Three Stooges. His warmth and zest for life drew people to him, making those around him feel welcome and cherished.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Sharon Smith. Daniel was the cherished son of John and Rose DeCato and the adored brother of Carol Lutsch and Jo Price. He was a beloved uncle to his nieces Antoinette Spencer, Sandra Levy, and the late Rose Price, and a treasured great-uncle to Katrina Jones, Jessica Whitlow, and the late Rachel Waikem.
His life stood as a testament to dedication, courage, and charisma, and his spirit will continue to live on in those who knew and loved him.
