Washington, PA

Daniel “Luke” McDaniel, 68, of Washington, passed peacefully on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at Transitions Healthcare in Washington. Born on August 14, 1957, in Washington, he was the son of the late Robert L. McDaniel and Helen M. Mocklin McDaniel. A graduate of Washington High School, Luke worked as a polisher at Penn Mould for 26 years. He made his home in Clarksville until a motorcycle accident in 2008 changed the course of his life.

On October 9, 2008, Luke sustained a traumatic brain injury in an un-helmeted motorcycle accident. After extensive rehabilitation, he resided at NeuroRestorative PA in Erie for 13 years before returning home to Washington in December 2021. For the last four years, he lived at Transitions Healthcare, where he found daily joy in socializing, crafts, bingo, and parties. His family remains deeply grateful to the caregivers who worked so hard to make his life as full and comfortable as possible.

Before his accident, Luke was a free spirit with a mischievous streak. He loved building cabins in the fields behind the family home on Dewey Avenue with his friend Kosey, spending time at Wiley’s with Dickie and Mac, and enjoying camping and minibike rides. He had a lifelong passion for riding his Triumph motorcycles, playing pool, cheering for the Steelers, and listening to Stevie Ray Vaughan. Luke also cherished his dogs, gardening, owls, dream catchers, and his favorite television shows: The Golden Girls, Reba, Andy Griffith, Gunsmoke, and the National Geographic Channel. He was known for his firm belief in Bigfoot.

Luke is survived by his son, Lucas Daniel McDaniel, whom he loved deeply; three grandchildren, Avery, Coen, and Keaton McDaniel; his brother, James (Paula) McDaniel; his sister and devoted caregiver, Susan (Edward) Bonus; nephews Nathan McDaniel, Michael Bonus, and James McDaniel; niece Emily Bland; and three great-nephews and four great-nieces. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert “Offy” McDaniel.
