Daniel Joseph "Dan" Meloan

Daniel Joseph "Dan" Meloan

Cedar Rapids, IA

Daniel “Dan” Joseph Meloan of Cedar Rapids passed away suddenly and peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on March 5, 2026, at Mercy Hospital—the same place where he was born on May 22, 1945.

Dan graduated from Regis High School in 1963 and from Loras College in Dubuque in 1967 with a degree in Business. He married his high school sweetheart, Betsy Lee, on September 23, 1967. The couple began their 58-year marriage in Cincinnati, Ohio, where Dan worked in the finance department at the GE Jet Engine Plant. They later returned to Cedar Rapids, where he spent more than twenty years at Dale Lee Distributing, rising to the position of Vice President. In later years he enjoyed a successful career at Skogman Realty, where his warm smile, genuine personality, and stylish presence made him a natural fit.

A 55-year member of All Saints Church, Dan’s faith was the steady foundation of his life. He sang in the church choir and loved to belt out Danny Boy, Elvis Presley, and Roy Orbison at home. He volunteered at both All Saints and Regis High School and remained close to his high school friends, gathering with them monthly for decades. A member of the 1962 Iowa State Championship Regis High School basketball team, he carried that same spirit into fatherhood, coaching his sons Matt and Danny’s basketball teams and even guiding one to the AAU Nationals.

Above all, Dan loved his family fiercely. He and Betsy were devoted soulmates who shared a lifetime of fishing, hunting, golf, and travel. He was a proud and attentive father who rarely missed a moment of his sons’ lives, and becoming “Papa” to grandsons Jacob, Caleb, and Andrew brought him immeasurable joy. With his Irish twinkle, ready joke, and warm handshake, Dan made everyone around him feel welcome. His legacy of faith, family, and friendship will live on in all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his beloved wife Betsy, sons Matt and Danny Jr. (Katie), grandsons Jacob, Caleb, and Andrew, brother Jim McPartland (Kathy), sister Sue Hutchins, and many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, twin daughters Molly and Elizabeth, and brother Kip Meloan.
