Daniel James McKian
September 12, 1977— March 9, 2026
Charleston, SC
Daniel James McKian, 48, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026 after a courageous 11-month battle with cancer.
Born on September 12, 1977 in Dearborn, Michigan, Dan enjoyed a wonderful childhood surrounded by his siblings and cousins. A gifted athlete at Plymouth Salem High School, he went on to play basketball at Siena Heights University, where he was respected as a leader both on and off the court.
Dan devoted 25 years to RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company, where he advanced through the ranks and managed hundreds of people. He took great pride in the strong relationships he built with his team and customers, known for his hard work, loyalty, and dedication to his career.
Above all, Dan’s greatest legacy was his family. He shared 21 loving years with his wife Jenn and was endlessly proud of their four children, Avery, 17, James Daniel, 15, Collins, 12, and Louis, 8. His happiest moments were spent coaching his kids in sports and playing ball with them in the driveway. For the past five years, Dan lived his dream life on Daniel Island, boating with family and friends, golfing, playing cards, enjoying time at the men’s lounge, and taking after-dinner walks around the lake with Jenn.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Eddie and Virginia Rusin and Anna and Frank McKian. Dan is survived by his wife Jenn, his children, his loving parents Dan and Kathleen McKian, his sister Jenny Boggio (Rich), his brother Jeff McKian (Bri), and his dear in-laws Barbara Krekel, Elizabeth Morris (Nathan), and Susan Borgerding (Bob). He will be remembered as the fun Uncle Dan to his eight adoring nieces and nephews.
