Daniel J Whelan Jr.

Daniel J. Whelan Jr. of Leisuretowne in Southampton, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026, at the age of 90. Born in Paulsboro, New Jersey, to the late Daniel J. and Amy Eleanora (née Suplee Morrison) Whelan, he spent the last twenty years of his life in Southampton after earlier residing in Camden, Pennsauken, and Medford.

He was the beloved husband of 68 years to Leah J. (née Shillings) Whelan. Dan was the loving father of Daniel Whelan III and his wife Sue of Medford, Glenn Whelan and his wife Jamie of Medford, Dianne Williams and her husband Jim of Bellmawr, and Dawn Stafford and her husband Chris of Atco. He is also survived by his sister Carol Greene of Little Egg Harbor, eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and his cherished dog Teddy. He was predeceased by his brother Robert Whelan.

A project engineer, Dan worked for Ivymont Construction in Audubon for 43 years. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Camden in 1954, where he excelled as a baseball player. A lifetime member of the Square Circle Sportsmen Club in Gibbsboro, he found great joy in time spent on the range with friends. An avid deer hunter and golfer, he shared many memorable hunting trips with his sons in Maine, Pennsylvania, and Kansas. In retirement, he and Leah enjoyed many happy winters as snowbirds in Florida.
