Daniel Dixon Hutchins died peacefully on February 19, 2026, in Sandersville, Georgia. Born on July 29, 1934, in Sandersville to Miriam Wall Hutchins and William Hull Hutchins, Dan grew up in the community, attending local schools before graduating from the University of Georgia with a degree in journalism as a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
After serving in the Army, he built a career in the newspaper business, beginning in Savannah and later joining Newhouse Newspapers in Atlanta. His professional connections allowed him to travel extensively, and he became a passionate world traveler. Dan lived on a farm with his beloved horses in Lawrenceville while working in Atlanta. A dedicated advocate for conservation, he worked with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and was a champion for wildlife and all animals.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother William Wall Hutchins, and his nephew Scott Hutchins. Dan is survived by his nephews and niece, Jeffrey Hutchins, Brian Hutchins, and Linda Fullmer, as well as his cousins Sally Turner Witter, Thomas Turner, and Diane Turner Ingoe.
