Daniel "Dan" Askey

Dan Askey passed away on March 12, 2026, surrounded by his family after a brief illness. Born in Niagara Falls, New York, to Blair and Helen Askey, he was predeceased by his parents and his sister and brother-in-law, Patti and Joe Mazzarella.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Eileen, his son Blair, of whom he was enormously proud, his daughter-in-law Kelly, and his granddaughter Helen, his cherished joke-telling buddy. He also leaves behind his special nieces Vicki (Rob) Cicero and Trini (Nick) Kuzmicki, along with many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law.

Dan spent 30 years as an EOP Counselor at SUNY Brockport, where he deeply touched the lives of countless students. He took great joy in watching them overcome challenges and succeed, and his warmth and humor left a lasting impression on them all. In his personal time, he found delight in his model trains, classic movies and television shows, cartoons, and lively poker games with friends. After retiring, he and Eileen enjoyed several cruises together, and he was especially thrilled to ride the mountain train in Skagway, Alaska, on two separate occasions.

Above all, Dan cherished his family. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him. At his request, there will be no wake or funeral; a celebration of life will be held at the family’s convenience.
