Dana LeRoy

Dana LeRoy

November 18, 1958 March 5, 2026

Danville, IN

Dana LeRoy, 67, of Danville, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on March 5, 2026. Born in Stillwater, Oklahoma, to the late Henry and Evelyn (Snake) LeRoy, he was a proud member of the Ponca-Omaha people and became a World Champion Native American Straight Dancer. Dana held a deep appreciation for traditional arts, particularly beadwork and quillwork. He met the love of his life, Debra, at a Pow-Wow in Mississippi, and they shared 35 wonderful years of marriage.

A man of profound faith, Dana was a devoted member of the Native American Church of the Morning Star in Michigan. He walked a path where the smoke of the altar and the breath of prayer rose as one, finding sacred harmony between his Native identity and his Savior. To him, the peyote ways were a road of healing and humility that drew him closer to the heart of God. He lived with the understanding that his faith did not replace his heritage, but fulfilled it, encountering Christ’s presence in the sacred songs, the steady beat of the drum, and the quiet reverence of the tipi.

Dana enjoyed attending Indianapolis Colts games and the Indy 500. He had a soft heart for animals and welcomed many stray pets into his home, often with Debra’s approval. Over the years he courageously faced many health challenges, yet he remained grateful for every moment spent with family and friends. He especially looked forward to visits with his close friend Josh during dialysis treatments and cherished attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities.

Dana is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Debra LeRoy; daughters Heather (Andy) Sutherlin of Bell Union, Indiana, and Corey (Alyssa) Cusick-LeRoy of Fort Wayne, Indiana; grandchildren Bobbie Lee and Andrew “AJ” Sutherlin Jr., Shiloh, and David; brothers Shannon (Tina) LeRoy of Enid, Oklahoma, and Robert LeRoy of California; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is also survived by his faithful companions, his dog Tripp and his cat Beasty.
