Damasia Shalkowski ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Iles Westover Chapel on Mar. 11, 2026.Damasia "Maye" Shalkowski, 88, of Levittown, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026.Born on October 31, 1937, in Whites Crossing, Pennsylvania, Maye was the daughter of the late Joseph and Jennie Dyda. In September, 1961, she married the love of her life, the late Joseph "Joe" S. Shalkowski, and together they built a beautiful life rooted in love, devotion, and family. They lived in Manville, New Jersey, until 1964, when they moved to Levittown, Pennsylvania. Maye was always interested in healthcare and became a parttime employee of the Upjohn Company where she provided home healthcare to the elderly during the early and mid-1970s. In February 1977, she graduated from the Bucks County Technical School's nursing program and began her long career as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Lower Bucks County Hospital, primarily working in the Coronary Care Unit.A dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Maye found great joy at the Jersey Shore with her family during the summers and vacationing in the Poconos visiting her sister, Caroline, and family. She was also an avid fan of professional tennis and golf and watching her two sons play Little League Baseball. As a follower of Jesus Christ, her lord and savior, Maye loved reading her Bible and listening to sermons on Christian radio.In April 2021, Maye moved to West Des Moines, Iowa, where she cherished spending precious time with many of her great-grandchildren, continuing to build bonds and share stories with family.Damasia is survived by her children Joseph (Joyce) Shalkowski of Austin, Texas, and Marc (Lisa) Shalkowski of West Des Moines, Iowa; her grandchildren Marc (Kathryn) Shalkowski, Derek (Katie) Shalkowski, Ryan Shalkowski, Jessica (Jordan) Wegner, and Julie Shalkowski; and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Caroline Kennedy, of Honesdale, PA, and brother, Raymond Dyda of Port Murray, NJ. She was preceded in death by her other eight brothers and sisters.Her legacy will continue to live on through the many lives she touched.A private service will be held for the family.Online condolences welcome at www.ilescares.com.
