Dallas Schmitt Toone

August 27, 1937 March 3, 2026

Logan, UT

Dallas Schmitt Toone, age 88, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026. She was born August 27, 1937 in Parker, Idaho, to Karl and Alverta Schmitt, and grew up on her family’s farm in St. Anthony, Idaho. She was the oldest of 6 children. She often shared fond memories of life on the farm—the animals, horses, and cows—and the special place it held in her heart.

As a teenager, she met Gordon Toone, and the two eventually attended Brigham Young University, a fact that became a standing joke in the family—that she had “chased him there.” They were married in the Salt Lake Temple and built a life centered on family.

Dallas spent much of her life as a devoted homemaker, raising their five children over many years, with nearly two decades between the oldest and youngest. Caring for her family was always at the center of her life. Later, she found work she truly loved as an aide on a special needs school bus. She worked there until she was 83. This was a role that reflected her patience, kindness, and compassion for others.

Over the years, she lived in multiple places, including Provo, Utah; Ogden, Utah; Reno, Nevada; Holladay, Utah; Hutchinson, Kansas; and Logan, Utah. She and Dad also built a home in Star Valley, where they enjoyed spending time together and with their family during the later years of his life.

Dallas was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and it built a strong foundation for her life. Some of her favorite callings were ones that focused on service. Those who knew Dallas remember her as an exceptionally kind and warm person. She made friends wherever she went and had a way of talking with people that made them feel welcome and valued. She was a true friend to many and had a gift for making others feel good simply by being around her.

Dallas was also a talented quilter and enjoyed seeking out new patterns and quilting material on her own and with quilting guilds she was part of. She gifted her children multiple quilts which will be cherished for years to come.

She is survived by four children: Steven (Leeann) of Peoria, Arizona; Kathy (Kim)Downs of Nibley; Jared (Leslie) of Santaquin; Matthew (Laura) of Salt Lake City; and daughter-in-law Margie Toone Huffaker of Twin Falls, Idaho, 18 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Toone, and her son, Phillip Toone.

Dallas will be remembered for her love of family, her kindness to others, and the many memories she shared from the farm where her life began.

Funeral services will be held at Nelson Funeral Home on Monday, March 9, 2026. Viewing from 10:30-12:00 with memories shared from 12:00-12:30. Burial will be at Logan Cemetery.
