Milesburg, PA
Dale R. Alters, 90, formerly of Moose Run, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home. Born on February 14, 1936, in Coburn, he was the son of the late Paul and Madilyn (Hosterman) Alters. He married Sandra “Gayle” Butler on July 20, 1963; she preceded him in death in 1998.
Dale attended Penns Valley Area High School before enlisting in the United States Navy on January 28, 1958. He served his country faithfully until his honorable discharge on January 26, 1962, attaining the rank of ADR3. Upon returning home, he worked for many years as a mill worker at Cerro Metal in Bellefonte before retiring.
A quiet and hardworking man, Dale found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed tinkering with his garden tractor and took great pride in maintaining a neat and well-kept yard. He and Gayle shared many happy memories traveling together in their camper on camping trips and bus excursions. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his family and held his children and grandchildren especially close to his heart.
He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly R. Miller and her husband, Darren, of Duncannon, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren, Wayne E. Miller, Lance A. Miller, Taylr D. Alters, and Alexis K. (Alters) Varner; and two great-grandchildren, Spencer and Parker. He is also survived by two sisters, Lavene Naugle of Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, and Colleen Guffy and her husband, David, of Mifflinburg. In addition to his parents and wife, Dale was preceded in death by his son, Rodney A. Alters; a granddaughter, Brittany Miller; and three brothers, Ronald, Loren, and Delbert Alters.
