Dale Eugene Prothe, age 81, Osawatomie, Kansas passed away Saturday, March 7, 2026. He was born on May 28, 1944 the son of Barney and Edna Gerken Prothe. He graduated from Paola High School in the Class of 1962 and played football during school. He was united in marriage to Linda Benus. He was a driver and later a dispatcher for Debrick Truck Line, retiring in 2005. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam. He was a member and Past Commander of the American Legion Post #156. He served on the honor guard and helped with many activities including, bingo, mice races, and Easter egg hunt. Dale enjoyed playing slow pitch softball, basketball, volleyball, and bowling. He liked watching about any kind of sporting event on television especially the Chiefs and Royals. He had a good sense of humor and was a jokester. Dale liked to hunt and fish. He had several good bird dogs. In most recent years, he enjoyed crappie fishing at Hillsdale Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Luella, infant Vera, and Elna. Dale is survived by his wife, Linda, a son Jim Prothe(Rhonda), a brother Alfred Prothe(Linda), a sister, Helen Smiley, and two grandchildren, Zoie and Eliza Prothe.
Funeral service will be held 11 am Saturday, March 14, 2026 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Block, Kansas. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 am to service time at the Church. Memorial contributions are suggested to American Legion Post #156. Online condolences can be left at www.eddybirchard.com.
