Dale Swenson, age 88, formerly of Concordia, KS, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2026 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS.
Dale was born on March 4, 1938 in Concordia, KS to Grant and Marjory R. (Barleen) Swenson, Jr. He graduated from Concordia High School in 1955 where he was an active member of the Concordia FFA. He received a Star Farmer award and served as Vice President from 1954-1955.
He married Madlyn Berg on June 28, 1959 at the Jamestown United Methodist Church in Jamestown, KS. They were married for almost 67 years. They had two sons and a beautiful life together. Dale and Madlyn met in a local sweet shoppe, and after seeing her from across the room, he proclaimed to his friend, “I’m going to marry that girl someday!” Madlyn survives the home.
Dale first started his career as a shoe salesman before joining the banking industry. He was also a financial advisor. Dale first started banking at First National Bank in Concordia, then moved to Arizona to bank before returning to Clyde and working for the Elk State Bank. This led him to the Linn State Bank in Linn and Washington, and it later became Tri-County Bank that also included Concordia. He served as President and CEO until his retirement in 1997.
Dale enjoyed working in his yard and was an avid coin collector. He also loved animals. Dale and Madlyn had many beloved pets through their years together and they happily spoiled them. Dale was a big presence in the lives of his grandchildren, and later on he especially enjoyed his visits with his great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Madlyn, Clay Center, KS; sons, David Swenson (Karen), Mesa, AZ and Kevin Swenson (Karla), Clay Center, KS; sisters, Carlene Diller, Wichita, KS and Karen Gates (Rick), Concordia, KS; sister-in-laws, Brenda Berg and Avis Berg; grandchildren, Brett Swenson (Jennifer), Haley Mastin (Johnnie), Brooke Shumaker (Kyle), Holly Swenson, Grant Swenson; great-grandchildren, Gwen and Wesley Swenson, and Easton and Levi Shumaker.
