Cynthia Gail Pierce

Cynthia Gail Pierce

Darien, CT

Cynthia Gail Pierce Darien lost one of its beloved residents on March 15, 2026 with the passing of Cynthia Gail Catron Pierce. One of the kindest and most generous individuals one could meet, Cindy will long be remembered for her love of Disney, the New York Mets, the holiday season, home-baked brownies, her beloved Sandusky, Ohio and family. Cindy was a part of countless lives throughout her 62-year residency in Darien. In addition to the 30-plus years she spent as a volunteer and employee in the Darien Public Schools, she always had an open door to friends and neighbors who came to see her Christmas wonderland that adorned the house from November through January. In fact, the experience was so magical that her sons' elementary schools would schedule field trips to the Pierce home to enjoy the display. Cindy was an avid sports fan who was regularly seen at numerous Darien High School sporting events and at the Darien Little League, where she served as an official scorekeeper from 1980 – 2007. In addition to her local sports interests, Cindy loved attending New York Mets games and watching the UConn Huskies basketball squads. In addition to her daily exploits in Darien, Cindy was also a world traveler, visiting England, Scotland, France, China, Russia and several South American countries among others. Prior to her position at Darien High School, she volunteered at the libraries at both Hollow Tree and Holmes Elementary Schools and for her years of service in Darien, Cindy was awarded a proclamation from the Darien Old Timer's Association, a state of Connecticut General Assembly Official Citation and Volunteer of the Year Award from the Connecticut District 1 Little League among others. The daughter of Perry and Mildred Louise Schiller Catron, she was born on March 17, 1938, in Sandusky, Ohio. She attended the former Clarke School for the Deaf in Northampton, MA, graduating in 1955. She continued her education at the Grier School for Girls in Tyrone, PA, MacMurray College in Jacksonville, IL and Chandler School for Women in Boston. She was an active member of the Clarke School's Alumni Council and served as the editor of the Alumni Directory and Biographical Register until her passing. Cindy was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Norman, in 2000, her parents and sister, Lynne. She is survived by her children Perry and his wife Kate of Darien and Philip and his wife Stephanie of Brownsburg, IN. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Christopher (Brooklyn, NY), Brittany (Darien), Matthew and Morgan (Indiana), three nephews and other extended family members. Visitation will be held on Monday evening, March 23 at Lawrence Funeral Home from 4p.m. to 8 p.m. A private burial will be held on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Little League International (https://www.littleleague.org/who-we-are/making-a-donation) and/or Darien Post 53 (https://post53.org/donate/).
