He was born on June 4, 1942, to Edgar and Leda Reed in Sherman, Texas. He was the youngest of four boys. He attended school in Gunter and then served his country in the U.S. Army for three years. After leaving the military, he had acareer in welding,spanningmore than50 years.On July 25, 1964, he married Dorothy Pelley.He especially enjoyed sharing the outdoors with his family, creating memories that will be treasured for years to come.He was an avid hunter and fisherman, sharing his love of thesesports with his son and grandsons. In addition to being an outdoorsman, he had a passion for working with horses. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Reed; his son, Paul Reedand wife, Rachelle, of Collinsville; daughters Shannon Reed of Whitesboro,Julie Dobbins and husband, Steve, of Van Alstyne, and Silvia Beck and husband, Georg, of Augsburg, Germany; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Bob Reed, of Collinsville, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Lucy Elizabeth; and his brothers, John and Tommy. A visitation will be held at Turrentine Jackson Morrow Funeral Home in Whitesboro on Friday, March 13,from 6 to 8 p.m.A graveside service will be held at Gunter Cemetery on Saturday, March 14, at 10 a.m. Pallbearers are Paul Reed, Zack Patrick, Reed Dobbins,Curt Reed III, Shaun Lynch, and Greg Pecina.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
