Curtis McLaughlin

January 27, 1932 February 27, 2026

Chapel Hill, NC

Curt McLaughlin, a distinguished educator and devoted family man, passed away after a life marked by intellectual curiosity, service, and deep affection for those around him. A graduate of Wesleyan University, he went on to earn both an MBA and a DBA from Harvard Business School. In 1968, he joined the faculty of the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School, where he taught with distinction until his retirement in 1997. He traveled widely, both as a visiting professor and as a member of choral groups, and served on the boards of numerous charitable foundations.

He is survived by his children, Lianne McLaughlin (Larry Daughtridge), Craig McLaughlin (Christi Voenell), Gwenn McLaughlin (Douglas Feltman), and Tritia McLaughlin (Paul van Son); his grandchildren, Alexis Daughtridge, Celia Daughtridge, Gregory Feltman (Lexie Conduff Feltman), Laura Feltman (Trevor Dunlap), and Manya Janowitz; and his great-grandchildren, Jack and Elizabeth Feltman. He is also remembered fondly by Barbara’s family and his dear friend Sue Smith.

Curt’s life was one of quiet commitment—to his students, his communities, and above all, to his family. Those who knew him will remember his thoughtful presence and the many ways he enriched the lives of others.
