Crayton Douglas Bouchie

July 7, 1947 March 13, 2026

Pierre, SD

Crayton Douglas Bouchie, 78, of Pierre, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, at Edgewood in Pierre.

Born on July 7, 1947, in Pierre to Elliot “Cub” and Eileen (Rausch) Bouchie, Crayton grew up in Agar and graduated from Agar High School in 1965. He continued his education at Huron College, where he played basketball and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1969. Following graduation, he taught biology and coached basketball for two years in Hosmer.

In June 1970, Crayton met Debby Nelson at a Young Republicans dance in Agar. Six months later, they married in Las Vegas. Together they built a life on a farm east of Pierre, welcoming their children Heather in 1973, Lindy in 1977, and Logan in 1981. A proud member of the South Dakota National Guard, Crayton spent many years farming, including time on the family land in Agar where he worked alongside his father. After retiring from farming and ranching, he worked at Lamb Motors in Onida, where he enjoyed the camaraderie of his coworkers. In his later years, he found joy in operating tractors, helping with the garden, and eating the first potato of the harvest straight from the ground. For decades, he bowled in a Tuesday night league with close friends, especially his best friend Mike Ogan.

Crayton cherished time with his family, particularly the days spent on the farm with his grandchildren, Daizy and Diesel.

He is survived by his wife Debby, their children Heather Bouchie, Lindy (Matt) Geraets, and Logan Bouchie, and his grandchildren Daizy Bouchie and Diesel Bouchie. He is also survived by his siblings Arlen Bouchie, Mervin Bouchie, Sheryl (Fred) Murray, and Berva (Joe) Noone. He was preceded in death by his parents and his infant daughter Lily Bouchie.
