Courtney Holsey Gibbs, a beloved mother, artist, veteran, and longtime community member, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2026, at the age of 66 in Rockville, Maryland.
Born on January 7, 1960, in Olney, Maryland, and raised in Potomac, she was the daughter of the late Lily Elizabeth Holsey (née Cooper) and Herbert Holsey. Courtney graduated from Winston Churchill High School and attended Bauder Fashion College in Miami. She proudly served in the United States Air Force before spending many years working for Montgomery County Public Schools in various roles. A talented folk artist, she exhibited her work throughout the Washington, DC area, including at the Strathmore Mansion, and was featured in local publications such as The Washington Post.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Gibbs, and her brother, Herbert Holsey Jr. Courtney is survived by her son, Colby A. Moore; her brothers Dwight, Richard, Keith, Vaughn, and Randolph Holsey; her sisters Cherie Avery and Viney Holsey; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
