Corrina Jane Smith, of the Alvarado community in Washington County, Virginia, passed away on her 78th birthday after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Born to the late Lonnie South and Lura Bott South in the Greendale community of Washington County, Jane attended Alvarado Bible Church and held a deep love for the Lord. She spent many quiet evenings reading and studying her Bible. A humble and caring woman, she consistently went out of her way to help others.
Jane worked as a seamstress at Harwood Manufacturing, served as a CNA at Johnston Memorial Hospital, and retired from the Washington County Virginia School System after many years as a custodian at Glade Spring Middle School. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing, carefully mending clothes for family and friends, and took great pleasure in cooking.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Earnest South, Paul South, Don South, Fred South, and another brother who died in infancy, as well as her sisters Bertha Deel, Lois Holmes, Pauline Carberry, and Jean Calloway.
Jane is survived by her husband of 54 years, Dean Smith; her son, Jason Smith, and his fiancée, Heather Blevins, of Abingdon, Virginia; her three beloved dogs, Sassy, Willey, and Marley; and many nieces and nephews.
