Stanton, 93, of North Sturbridge Rd., passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 15th, at UMass Memorial Hospital-University Campus, Worcester, after a brief illness.He leaves his beloved wife of 12 years, Arlene A. (Casey) Kingston Stanton, his son, Edward Stanton of Chicopee; his two daughters, Joanne Denver and her husband Mark of East Longmeadow and Jennifer George and her husband, Bill of Granby, CT; a brother, John Stanton of Maine; and his five cherished grandchildren, Matthew Denver, Nicole Flaherty, Conne George, Dane Stanton, Nash Stanton, 3 great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. Cornelius was predeceased by a son, Michael Stanton and three brothers, Leo Stanton, Thomas Stanton and James Stanton.He was born in Newburyport the son of Thomas L. and Mary B. (Doyle) Stanton.Cornelius graduated high school as its Valedictorian, obtained his bachelor's degree from Bentely College and went on to serve honorable in the United States Army in Germany during WWII. Cornelius then moved to Chicopee MA where he settled to raise his family. He worked for many years as the Director of Group Claims for Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance before finishing his career after 40+ years.Cornelius was a quiet, humble, genuinely kind man with a strong faith based moral compass. This along with his strong-willed presence lived as a solid role model for his family.Cornelius moved to Charlton after retiring and transitioned into an extended Kingston family who embraced him wholeheartedly. He was an active and devote member of St. Joseph's Church as a Eucharistic minister and Food Pantry volunteer. He enjoyed the simple pleasure of sitting on the outdoor swing and spending quiet time with his wife Arlene enjoying the view of the lake.A funeral Mass for Cornelius will be held on Thursday, March 19th, at 11:00 am in St. Joseph's Church, 10 H. Putnam Rd. Ext., Charlton. A Calling hour will be held on Thursday, March 19th, in St. Joseph's Church, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, prior to the Mass.Burial will be private in Saint Patrick's Cemetery, Chicopee MA.In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital or your local food pantry.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
