Corinne Susan Buchbinder

August 29, 1945 March 12, 2026

Farmington Hills, MI

Corinne Susan Buchbinder, age 80, passed away on March 12, 2026, in Farmington Hills, Michigan, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born on August 29, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan, to Hank and Elsie (Muehlbrandt) Gavie. Corinne grew up on Lake St. Clair in Harrison Township, where she developed a lifelong love of the water and boating. She later lived for many years in Macomb before settling in Farmington Hills.

A devoted stay-at-home mother when her children were young, Corinne was deeply involved in their lives. She participated actively in the PTA and attended every school event and sporting activity, knowing all of her children’s friends. After her children were older, she worked as a legal secretary until her retirement in 2005. In retirement, she served on the board of directors at her condominium complex for several years.

Corinne filled her life with meaningful pursuits and lasting friendships. More than fifty years ago, she began a monthly pinochle card club with friends that endured for decades. She loved spending time on the water, reading, traveling, knitting, and gathering with loved ones. She began each morning with coffee and the crossword puzzle and was known for knitting baby sweaters for family and friends. Her travels took her to Europe several times as well as to Hawaii and Alaska. Her faith was central to her life; she participated in Bible study at Immanuel Lutheran Church and joined a mission trip to Brazil. She also cherished cats and shared her home with many, including Rosie, her constant companion in assisted living.

Corinne was remembered for her dry sense of humor and, in her later years, a feisty spirit that kept those around her smiling. Even during her time in assisted living, she had a gift for making the staff laugh and bringing levity to ordinary moments. She will be deeply missed for her quick wit and warm presence.

She is survived by her son, Derick Buchbinder (April); her daughter, Bridget Millar (Mike); her sister, Jenneth Nunnally (Bob Scherer); and her grandchildren, Bryce Buchbinder (Tacey), Mandy Millar, Melanie Millar, and Megan Millar. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hank and Elsie Gavie.
