Colleen Meyers

Colleen Kim Meyers, born March 9, 1961, passed away after a life defined by hard work, adventure, and love for family and the outdoors.

Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 17 at Goglin Funeral Home in Yankton. Funeral service is 12:00 p.m. Burial will be in Yankton Municipal Cemetery.

She was a proud and devoted mother to her son, Justin Dean Meyers, who was the center of her world. Together they shared many adventures fishing, camping, hiking, and traveling, exploring the rivers and lakes of South Dakota and visiting places such as Florida, Branson, Yellowstone, and the Black Hills.

Colleen began working at a young age, bussing tables at 12 and working in a nursing home by 13. Throughout her life she worked at Dale Electronics, the South Dakota Driver’s License Bureau, HSC, Captain Norm’s, and spent the past 20 years at Southpoint Gaming Lounge. She also taught the South Dakota motorcycle rider course for seven years.

She was an entrepreneur and community member, owning King Fireworks for 16 years and later starting White Rock Ridge, where she created western crafts and polished rocks sold at the Buffalo Roundup in Custer. She was a member of South Dakota Friends of the Fish Hatchery, South Dakota ABATE, and South Dakota Bass Masters, and was the founder of the Lewis and Clark Corvette Club.

Colleen loved the outdoors, and adventure. She raced her 1969 Ford Torino at Thunder Valley Drag Strip, rode motorcycles to the Sturgis Rally for many years, and owned three Harley-Davidson motorcycles. She also enjoyed competing in bass fishing tournaments across South Dakota.

She had a special love for animals, especially her cats. Her beloved cats Toby and Frankie passed earlier this year and will be laid to rest with her. She also leaves behind her longtime companions, Jitter and Dirk.

Colleen was preceded in death by her parents, Dean and Elva Meyers, and by Justin’s father, Shawn Gilpin.

She is survived by her son, Justin Dean Meyers; her nieces, Kristi Kay Patton and Kaylee Jo Zoss; her great-nephew, Ivan “Walker” Zoss; her beloved sister, Arletta Zoss, and brother-in-law, Ivan “Buck” Zoss.

Colleen will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, independence, and the love she shared with family, friends, and animals. She will be deeply missed.
