Clifton “Cliff” H. Akers, beloved husband of Juanita Baker Akers, passed away on March 10, 2026. Born and raised in Bluefield, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Fred and Hallie Hypes Akers. Cliff served his country as a military police officer in the United States Army. He began his career at Worthington Tile Company before founding his own successful business, Akers Tile Company, where his strong work ethic and exceptional skill earned him lasting respect in his field.
A member of Hodges Masonic Lodge and the Hejaz Shriners, Cliff was also a faithful member of Fountain of Life Worship Center – Church of God of Prophecy. He cherished time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Poppie.” He found great joy in sharing stories and watching ballgames, wrestling matches, and stock car races alongside those he loved. His quiet dedication to family and community left a deep and lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Cliff was predeceased by two sons, Jerry Stone and James Stone; a sister, Delores Beaston; brothers, Clyde Akers Sr., Cecil Akers, and Freddy Akers; grandchildren, Bill Alverson and Ray Alverson; and a nephew, William Akers.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Juanita; daughters, Jan Alverson Townsend and Terri Varnum (Jimmy); grandchildren, Robbie Stone (Alethea) and Jason Sellars (Whitni); and great-grandchildren, Karlie Stone (Carson), Chansley Sellars, Grason Stone, Coltin Sellars, and Waylon Sellars.
