Clarice Nadine Wood, age 93, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, March 7, 2026.
Born on June 4, 1932, on a farm east of Browning, Missouri, Clarice was the daughter of Lealand and Lucile (Taylor) Norvell. She graduated from Browning High School in 1949. On November 10, 1950, she married Donald Dean Wood, who preceded her in death on June 8, 1999.
Clarice built a long and dedicated career. She began as secretary to the Home Extension Agent at the Linn County Courthouse in Linneus, Missouri, and later worked as a cashier at Citizens Savings Bank in Browning. After moving with Donald to Chicago, she worked as a typist at Hills McCanna. Upon returning to Browning in 1952, the couple opened Wood TV Appliance and Repair Shop. She subsequently served as secretary to the Board of Education and Superintendent of Schools for eight years. After relocating to Kansas City, Kansas, Clarice became Head Accountant for Turner Unified School District #202, where she worked for 45 years before retiring. She then worked an additional eight years for the Internal Revenue Service, retiring once more. A proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Kansas Public School Retirement System, she found great joy in researching genealogy.
Clarice is survived by her daughter, Juanita Wood-Harpster and husband Bob Harpster of Foxfield, Colorado, and their children Rebecca Harpster and husband Jeff May, along with grandchildren Elena Reiffin, Jenna, and Matthew; Andrew Harpster and wife Natasha, and granddaughter Delaney; and Molly Harpster and husband Chris Gramlich, and grandson Mason. She is also survived by her son, David Wood of Kansas City, Kansas, and his children Katy Chowning and husband Tracy Chowning, along with grandchildren Hunter and Stella; and Lauren Wright and husband Jeremy Wright, along with grandchildren Charlie and Jack; as well as daughter-in-law Lisa Wood. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald Dean Wood, and her sister Elaine Miller.
