Westminster, MD

Clare F. Sebok, 69, of Maryland, died on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, after a long and bravely fought battle with cancer. Born in Trenton, New Jersey, she later moved with her parents to Lawrenceville, New Jersey. She graduated from Notre Dame High School in Lawrenceville and earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Rider College in 1978. Clare taught English at Marcus W. Newcomb Middle School in Pemberton, New Jersey, for several years before pursuing advanced studies, earning a master’s degree in Library Science and beginning a master’s in Theology at LaSalle University in Philadelphia, which was interrupted by eldercare.

She married her soulmate, Dr. William L. Sebok, on June 26, 1988, in a ceremony at the Princeton University Chapel in Princeton, New Jersey. The couple then made their home in Maryland. Clare worked as a research librarian at Goucher College in Towson, Carroll Community College in Westminster, the University of Maryland, and Howard Community College.

Clare had a deep love for animals and raised dogs, cats, and ferrets. She found great joy in nature, walking in gardens, and became a Maryland Master Naturalist. An avid birdwatcher, she could identify a wide variety of birdcalls, ospreys, butterflies, and insects. A devout Catholic, she attended Mass regularly and continued to participate via livestream during her illness, drawing strength and comfort from her faith.

A devoted daughter and niece, Clare selflessly cared for her elderly parents and her Aunt Terri for many years. She later cared for her beloved husband during his illness until his passing in 2022. Daughter of the late John S. and Marion W. Flesch, niece of the late Laura Ford and Theresa Flesch, and wife of the late Dr. William L. Sebok, she deeply cherished her relatives, her late husband’s family, and the many friendships she formed throughout her life.
