Cindie Van Slyke ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. - Dale City on Mar. 16, 2026.Cindie Lee Van Slyke (née Mattingley), 66, of Woodbridge, VA passed away on March 11, 2026, with her husband Don and grandson Luca next to her.Cindie was born in Killeen, TX on September 29, 1959, to Francis L. Mattingley and Barbara A. Mattingley. She grew up in an Army home and had the privilege of living in Okinawa and German, spending time traveling through Europe.She married the love of her life, Donald, on November 4, 1978, and became a US Marine Corps wife, stationed with Donald in Naples, Italy and many military bases in the US.Cindie loved spending time with her family and had a deep love for animals, whether it was that one stray cat that somehow turned into many, an owl she saw sitting on a branch, or all the wildlife she enjoyed watching while riding on the motorcycle, animals always found a special place in her heart. She enjoyed walking across swinging bridges, going on road trips with her daughter and grandkids, and riding through the Shenandoah mountains and through the eastern part of the US on the motorcycle with Don. She was someone who truly embraced life and the moments that made it special.Cindie was full of love and kindness and had so much to give to those she met. She worked at Target for over 27 years and had touched so many hearts there; they were a second family to her. Whether sharing words of wisdom or simply joking around and enjoying time together, she made people feel welcomed and cared for. She was someone who truly enjoyed life and brought warmth and laughter to those around her.Cindie was preceded in death by her father, Francis L. Mattingley.She is survived by her loving husband, Donald Van Slyke; her daughter, Jessica Casco; her son-in-law, Cristian Casco; her mother, Barbara Mattingley; her siblings, Stevie and Sherrie; and her cherished grandchildren, Hailee, Luca, Kaitlyn, and Malin.Cindie was a simple and sweet lady and with that we will be celebrating her in a simple way, nothing formal. She was full of life, so let's remember her in that way.A celebration of Cindie's life will be held on April 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home, 4143 Dale Blvd., Dale City, VA, where family and friends are invited to gather to honor and remember her life.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
