Chung Tao "Tom" Ho

1946 — 2026

Vernon Hills, IL

Chung Tao (Tom) Ho, 79, of Vernon Hills, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, at Highland Park Hospital. Born in Nanjing and raised in China, Chung immigrated to the United States in 1984 and worked tirelessly as a restaurant cook. He lived frugally with one selfless purpose: to bring his wife and son to join him, a dream he realized in 1991. His deep dedication to family remained the guiding force of his life, as he sought to give his children the opportunities he never had.

When he was not working, Chung stayed active by playing basketball and became a skilled Chinese chess player. He cherished quiet moments in the company of his friends and family. Those who knew him will remember him as a kind and generous soul whose quiet sacrifices continue to shape the lives of those he loved.

Chung is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ping Qing Zhao; his sons, Xin He (Li Juan Li) and Michael Li He (Sui Gu); his grandson, Alexander He; and his siblings, Chung Fa Ho, Ellen Bull, Edward Chung De Ho, and Johnson Chung Sen Ho. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pao Sen Ho and Da San Fang.
